Fezi Hand-Embroidered Napkins

Enjoy beautiful and unique designs while also supporting artisans practicing a traditional craft.

These hand embroidered napkins are elegant enough for special occasions and durable enough for everyday use. We have put them to the test for ourselves at home and they stand up well to machine washing with the rest of the laundry with weekly use for several years. They still look good as new! The embroidery is very tight and every stitch stays in place.
These beautiful cloth napkins have gotten us off paper napkins for good. They clean better, feel nicer, and you need fewer of them even with a messy meal. They also make perfect pocket handkerchiefs.

Size:
These napkins are approximately 13"x13" unfolded. Each napkin is hand made with hand rolled edges. This means that there may be slight variation in size.

Choosing the number of napkins:
We are selling the napkins in different quantities to fit your needs. They can come in a pair of two, or four or eight. These are uniquely made and once a particular color is gone it may or may not be available again.

Please also inquire about custom orders.

More About Fezi Embroidery:
Fezi embroidery is a traditional Moroccan style embroidery originating from Fez, Morocco. It is a challenging craft to learn and takes years to master. Each piece of the motif is passed over by thread multiple times in a prescribed sequence. There is no drawn pattern the artisan follows, instead they rely on memorization.

High quality fezi embroidery is double sided and durable, it will withstand washing in regular use. This makes it ideal for decorating practical items that see a lot of wear. As we have heard from multiple artisans, “The fabric will deteriorate before our embroidery will.” And true to our experience, fezi embroidery has stood up to regular wear and washing in our own personal collection.

About our Artisan:
The pieces in this listing were all embroidered by Fatima. We have a long working relationship and friendship with Fatima. She is a strong woman with a great sense of humor. She is dedicated to taking care of her immediate and extended family primarily through her artisan work. She makes tight, high quality embroidery that we have been enjoying over the years in our own home. We hope you will too!

Large Wooden Spatula
Add warmth and character to your kitchen with a hand-carved spatula.

The details:
Each spatula is approximately 16" long and 3" wide. Hand carved in a Moroccan cooperative from local araar, or Thuya wood. The wood has not been treated or coated and is completely natural. Thuya wood has a distinct smell somewhat reminiscent of cedar.

This spatula is large enough for a deep pot or keeping your hand further away from the heat as you peek under your baked goods. Wood is gentle on non-stick surfaces, and extends the life of your pots and pans. The beautiful hand-carved quality means each piece has its personality and unique characteristics.

Proper care:
To prevent cracking, the wood can be oiled with an oil of your choice. Coconut oil or olive oil is recommended. Always wash your wooden kitchen utensils by hand and not in the dishwasher, which may dry the wood too quickly and cause cracking.

About our wood products: We work directly with a wood carving cooperative in Morocco for our wood products. They specialize in carving thuya wood products (also known as araar in Arabic). Thuya wood is a unique and valuable local wood that is under protection to prevent over harvesting. Our artisans purchase their wood through the government allotted supply.

We value not only the sustainability of the beautiful wood products but the artisans who make them.
